Transfer window is live and it is yet another day in news coming out on Jadon Sancho’s deal to Manchester United.
Earlier this week, both the teams denied they are in talks but transfer mogul Fabrizio Romano believes that they are playing their own games and a fee of around €120m to be paid in installments of €70m, €30m, and €20m is decided.
With the COVID-19 pandemic, every football club has suffered some financial damage. United have too and that’s why they are not going to make multiple superstar signings this season.
Journalist Jan Age Fjortoft reports that if United sign Sancho, he will be the only big profile player arriving at Old Trafford. And its fair as United cannot spend astronomical sums for James Maddison, Jack Grealish or Donny van de Beek.
Once United sign Sancho, Ed Woodward will look to sign a back-up center-back given Chris Smalling will leave the club. Many understand if Axel Tuanzebe and Eric Bailly can keep themselves fit, they won’t need another center-back. However, with United playing a minimum of 50-55 games next season, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer doesn’t want to take any chances.
We can also understand that Sancho is a priority signing for United and they will not do something stupid to back off from the deal. But, for the deal to go through, it will take some time.
This is a good strategy for the Reds in the long term to not settle with mediocre players and buy the best player available in the market season-by-season. Even if we don’t get a midfielder or a defender, signing Sancho could be a great decision by the club.
