Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat dreams of rejoining Manchester United following the club’s decision to continue with manager Erik ten Hag, according to Corriere dello Sport.
The Morocco international signed for the Red Devils on loan from Fiorentina on deadline day last summer. He was the subject of interest from several clubs, but was determined to move to Old Trafford.
Amrabat had a difficult start to his United career due to the higher intensity of the Premier League. He found himself as a bench regular in early 2024, but managed to redeem himself towards the end.
The 27-year-old started the final four games of United’s campaign. He was impressive with his performances and got the nod over Casemiro in the starting line-up for the FA Cup final.
United decided against the option to buy him for £17 million plus £4m in add-ons last month, but Corriere dello Sport claim that ‘it’s no secret’ that Amrabat dreams of returning to United.
His ambition has become even more concrete with the club’s decision to continue with Ten Hag. The Dutch tactician recently put pen-to-paper on a new contract until the summer of 2026.
It is claimed that a transfer could be redone. Amrabat’s current contract with Fiorentina expires next summer and sporting director Daniel Prade could be tempted to sell him for just £13m.
Man Utd could be open to Amrabat reunion due to Ten Hag
Amrabat had the choice to join several Premier League rivals last summer, but he was adamant that he wanted to move to United and reunite with his former Utrecht manager Ten Hag.
Things did not go as planned for the talented midfielder, who was described as ‘world-class‘ by Morocco manager Walid Regragui during the successful World Cup campaign in 2022.
He was initially played out of position at left-back and then struggled to adapt to the high press from defensive midfield.
Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro were preferred over him from February, but the injury crisis at centre-back changed his fortunes. Amrabat got the nod in midfield as Casemiro filled the void.
His performances were impressive to the point that Casemiro was on the bench for the FA Cup final. The Brazilian eventually dropped out of the squad with a minor injury in the warm up.
The Red Devils did not trigger the buy clause for Amrabat last month, but the midfielder will be hoping for a reunion. Ten Hag also appears keen on bringing him back to Old Trafford.
