Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger insists that Manchester United should be dealing with the transfer situation of midfielder Paul Pogba better.
The 27-year-old remained in the spotlight last week when his agent Mino Raiola claimed that his client wants to leave the Manchester side, adding that the Red Devils should consider moving him on or face the possibility of losing him for free.
Just 24 hours following the revelation of Raiola, the Frenchman enjoyed a brief cameo against RB Leipzig in the Champions League and later the Norwegian boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer started him in the important derby match against Manchester City.
According to the legendary manager Wenger, United should be using the World Cup winner’s transfer situation to their benefit.
“I believe that you have to explain to a player that no matter what his future plan is, his interest and his job is to perform at the present club,” the former Gunners boss told ESPN’s Caught Offside podcast.
“It’s the best way to prepare your future, to play well in the present.
“When I saw Pogba coming on on Tuesday night at RB Leipzig, I was sorry he didn’t start the game because straight away he made a huge impact.”
Pogba arrived at Manchester United in the summer of 2016 in a record £89 million deal from Juventus. So far, he has racked up 380 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils, scoring 71 goals and creating 82 assists.
The France international is widely regarded as one of the most talented players at Old Trafford, however, he has often come under criticism for his inconsistent performances.
