Manchester United needs a win or a draw to qualify for Champions League next season as they face Leicester City in in Sunday’s monumental match up at the King Power Stadium.
Brendan Rodgers will face the absence of some of his star personnel who could have changed the game into the Foxes’ favor.
Ben Chilwell is out due to a thigh injury. The English international is arguably one of the best in his position in the league. Luke Thomas replaces Chilwell and it looks like he could be the no.3 going forward against United in the home fixture. Absence of Chilwell may come as a relief for United’s players as he was a constant threat in attack and a really good defender who could limit United’s chances in the attack. Thomas is inexperienced which could help Mason Greenwood and Aaron Wan-Bissaka to attack from the right flank.
James Maddison suffered a reoccurrence of a hip injury and will surely not be part of the squad going against the Reds. A player with his level of creativity will be missed even by the best of teams. A chance for Manchester United to take advantage of the lack of creative aspect of the opposite side which can upset their Champions League hopes. Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes will be relived as they could attack without thinking of stopping Maddison.
Christian Fuchs and Ricardo Pereira are out due to groin and anterior cruciate ligament injuries respectively. While Fuchs is not a regular, Portuguese right-back Pereira is a focal point of a lot of attacks Leicester generate from the right flank.
Calgar Soyuncuis will miss the tie too. He was suspended for the rest of the fixture after he got a red card for kicking a Bournemouth player on march day 35. Soyuncu has been instrumental this season in absence of Harry Maguire for Leicester. He’s put in top-notch performances week in week out. He’s going to be a huge miss!
Lack of defensive options for Leicester City is a perfect opportunity for United’s forwards to penetrate in and score goals against them and secure a Champions League spot.
