Manchester United are scheduled to face Austrian side LASK on the road in Thursday’s Europa League clash. The Red Devils are in a fine run of form with a 10-match unbeaten streak and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be hoping that the players can put in a strong performance during the first leg of the round of 16 tie at the Linzer Stadium.
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Predicted Lineup:
Sergio Romero has been the regular choice in goal for the Cup competitions this term and he should feature ahead of David de Gea between the sticks. The Argentine has kept eight clean sheets from his previous nine appearances for the club.
In the defence, Solskjaer should revert to the traditional four-man backline. Eric Bailly could be handed a start ahead of Victor Lindelof in the central defence. He should accompany Harry Maguire. Elsewhere, we are anticipating Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw to feature in the full-back positions.
In the centre of the park, Scott McTominay is expected to make the starting lineup after being restricted to a cameo appearance in the Manchester derby, where he scored a superb wondergoal. The Scot may replace Nemanja Matic, who could be offered a breather ahead of the crucial league clash against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. Fred will definitely take up the other midfield slot.
Further forward, Solskjaer should go with Bruno Fernandes in the number 10 position. The Portuguese has been in superb form following his January arrival and he has already contributed three goals and three assists for the club in all competitions.
On the flanks, Daniel James and Mason Greenwood are likely to feature. Greenwood was an unused substitute in the recent derby but he surely deserves to make the starting XI on Thursday ahead of Jesse Lingard and Andreas Pereira, who have been pretty average with their performances this term.
Odion Ighalo is expected to lead the attack with Anthony Martial ruled out of the game with the minor injury sustained in the Manchester derby. The ex-Watford man has impressed with his two starts in the Cup competitions where he has scored on three occasions.
