Manchester United have had endured an obscure transfer window so far, making just one signing in Donny Van de Beek.
And if the reports surrounding the Mancunian club are thought to be true, United are likely to miss out on their no.1 summer transfer target in Jadon Sancho and will rather be looking to sign Ousmane Dembele on a season-long loan deal from Barcelona.
Barcelona would like to sell Dembele on a permanent basis. And should that be the case, Borussia Dortmund, as Dembele’s former club, would receive an amount of €15 million in the event of resale.
This would certainly be another backlash in the market for Manchester United and another checkmate moment from Dortmund’s end.
The English club has had reportedly made a firm contact to secure the Dembele deal in the dying minutes of the summer transfer window after Dortmund, on the other hand, confirmed they would like to keep Sancho for at least another season.
Dortmund pocketed €145m from the sale of Dembele to Barcelona in the year 2017, having nurtured his overwhelming talent over the years in the youth ranks.
The now-reported €15m could prove to be the last cherry on the cake for Dortmund and knock United’s confidence and reputation further down the drain in the ongoing transfer market.
The whole situation regarding the Sancho saga and Ousmane Dembele’s potential arrival at Old Trafford is a mess, and things could make a swift turn at any moment.
