Ian Wright has sent a message to England manager Gareth Southgate after watching Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo in action again against Luton Town on Sunday.
The teenage sensation has been one of the best players at the Old Trafford club this season, and he was in fine form once again at the weekend.
Mainoo has been tipped to earn a call-up to the Three Lions following an outstanding start to his breakthrough campaign, and Wright wants him to be part of the next international squad.
The Arsenal legend took to social media platform X to shower praise on the Man United star during the Luton game.
Gary Lineker agreed with Wright in a reply to the former Gunners striker’s post.
Mainoo is only 18 but he plays like a veteran midfielder and constantly displays a level of maturity beyond his years on the pitch.
He has established himself as a regular for Man United since returning to fitness after picking up a knock during pre-season, featuring in 15 games across all competitions and weighing in with two goals.
Casemiro was hauled off at half-time against Luton after struggling with the intensity of the game and also narrowly escaping being sent off in the first-half.
By contrast, Mainoo remained on the pitch having been superb throughout the game and earning the trust of manager Erik ten Hag.
He has missed just two games across all competitions since his first game of the season against Everton in November, and England need such a midfielder in their ranks for the European Championship this summer.
The Man United academy graduate is slowly establishing himself as one of the top midfielders in the Premier League, and he has the potential to become the best in the world in his position.
