‘I follow all the rumours’: Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner refuses to rule out managing Man Utd

Manchester United have had a tough start to the Premier League season.

The Red Devils have picked up only seven points from six league games. They suffered a 3-1 defeat on the road to Brentford last weekend.

This has led to fresh speculation over manager Ruben Amorim’s future ahead of the league clash against Sunderland at Old Trafford on Saturday.

United have been linked with several managers. Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner has been added to the mix amid his recent success at the London side.

Speaking to the Austrian version of Kicker, Glasner was asked whether he is ‘annoyed’ or ‘amused’ by the speculation linking him with United and other top clubs.

Kicker asked: “There are a lot of rumours circulating about you again. From Manchester United in the short term to all sorts of top clubs after 2026.

“Are these reports annoying or amusing you, and can you reveal when you and Palace plan to discuss your future again?”

In response, Glasner said: “I follow all the rumours – and that’s all there is – neutrally and completely relaxed. Focusing on the daily work with my players and coaches, and trying to enjoy it as much as possible.”

The Austrian has made a big impact since his appointment at the Eagles in February last year. He guided them to a 10th-place finish in his first season in charge.

Palace finished 12th in the previous campaign, but picked up five extra points. Their season ended with FA Cup glory after a 1-0 win over Manchester City in the final at Wembley.

The Eagles won their first major trophy and subsequently beat Liverpool in the Community Shield on penalties last month to secure another piece of silverware.

Palace have since made a bright start in the league with 12 points from seven games and beat Liverpool last weekend. There are no surprises that Glasner is being tipped for a big-club move.

Amorim has stuck with his 3-4-2-1 formation since his appointment last year, but the Red Devils have picked up just 34 points from 33 league games under his management.

There are no plans for a change, as things stand. Amorim will be owed £12 million in compensation if he is sacked before November 1, but the fee would be substantially less thereafter (£4m).

Judging by this, United could stick with the Portuguese tactician. They have given him the vote of confidence and may not contemplate a change for at least another month.

If they were to consider one, Glasner could emerge as a serious candidate. The 51-year-old has been successful with a similar 3-4-2-1 setup at Palace and could replicate it at United.
