Huge injury boost for Man Utd ahead of Liverpool clash

Manchester United return to Premier League action on Saturday with a trip to Anfield to face rivals Liverpool in Saturday’s lunchtime kickoff.

We currently sit joint-top of the table and are already seven points clear of Liverpool after only seven games.

Supporters of the Merseyside club were once again expecting a title challenge this season after keeping a hold of Philippe Coutinho whilst adding Mohamed Salah and err… Andy Robertson over the summer.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are widely regarded as having one of the best attacks in the league – backed up by being the fourth-highest scorers in the English top flight through seven games.  Their 13 goals is only eight less than us.

However, their attack has been greatly reduced today with the news that Sadio Mane will miss this weekend’s encounter with a hamstring injury.

The BBC have confirmed that the forward could miss up to six weeks of action after suffering the injury whilst on international duty with Senegal.  The Liverpool star was substituted in the 89th minute of their 2-0 win over Cape Verde on Saturday.

Mane played 73 minutes of Liverpool’s 1-1 draw at Newcastle before the international break after serving a two-game ban for his kick to the head of Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson in their 0-5 thrashing in early September.

The 25-year-old’s absence means that Klopp is likely to start with Mohamed Salah, Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino as his front three this weekend.

Sadio Mane offers both pace and a goalscoring threat down the wing for Liverpool.  He has scored an impressive 37 goals in 99 Premier League goals for Southampton and Liverpool combined.
