Premier League clubs unanimously voted to resume training in small groups on Monday as they agreed to stage one of ‘Project Restart’.
Manchester United had been due to face Tottenham Hotspur at their new stadium prior to the league’s suspension on 13 March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The hope of many clubs is to get an agreement in place for the league to resume of the weekend commencing Friday 12 June.
You can expect Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and co to be back to work on the training ground tomorrow given the short time to get to full match fitness between now and 12 June after a two month lay-off.
It was reported on Sunday that our first-team squad were tested for coronavirus on Sunday at a testing station that was purposely set up in the car park of our Carrington training facility. The Manchester Evening News photographed Fred turning up to our training base. Results of these tests are vital before team training can resume in order not to spread the deadly virus among the camp.
Last week, photos of Luke Shaw and Daniel James training together on a school playing field made the rounds, whilst Paul Pogba, Victor Lindelof and Andreas Pereira have done likewise. All players can be expected to have kept up some sort of physical fitness over the past two months.
The German Bundesliga campaign restarted over the weekend and although most players and teams looked far short of their best, it generally received positive reviews. Manchester United and our Premier League rivals will be able to learn from the teams and players in Germany in hopes of performing better in our first game, provided the 2019-20 season does indeed restart next month.
