Saturday sees Manchester United take on Newcastle United at the world renowned, historically named, never to be sold for naming rights, Old Trafford – the Theatre of Dreams. Just for good measure it hosts the match at the traditional but somewhat unfamiliar time of 3pm and it could trigger a shift in the Premier League Betting odds.
After a fantastic unbeaten start to the season, Newcastle were rudely awoken by our ever improving (but ever so bitter) noisy neighbours at the other pimped out football stadium, The Etihad. It was the first time Newcastle faced a real test this season and they failed it miserably falling to a 3-1 defeat.
Later in the day United achieved what eight previous visits to South Wales had failed to achieve for the club……a win against Swansea City – with a solitary Hernandez goal proving the difference.
Fast-Forward 24hrs and a late Glen Johnson goal for Liverpool at Stamford Bridge has instilled yet another false dawn on Anfield and percolated some rather interesting predictions of a renewed title challenge from their expensively assembled, flatteringly deceptive squad, much to mine and many other United fan’s comical pleasure.
It does however create the scenario where the Premier League title odds could be thrown wide open.
City haven’t won at Anfield since 2003 when Nicolas Anelka returned to haunt his former club with a well taken brace.
You need to trawl through the archives all the way back to February 1972 to find the last time Newcastle beat United at Old Trafford, 28 games since has seen Newcastle manage just 7 draws.
The stats suggest that by 6pm on Sunday Manchester united could’ve clawed the deficit at the top of the Barclays Premier League back to just 2pts, and with City facing a tricky month in December with trips to Chelsea and West Brom; and home games against Norwich, Arsenal and Stoke, it could well prove to be a critical turning point in the season.
It’s for that reason I suggest you quickly make the most of what is a very generous 3.1 (2/1) with Betfair (before the gap is closed on Sunday) that Manchester United go on to win the title in May……if you don’t……it could be the last time you see that price…..ALL ABOARD!
