Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata has heaped praise on the ability of Aaron Wan-Bissaka ahead of the Red Devils’ Premier League clash against Arsenal on Monday night.
Wan-Bissaka made the switch from Crystal Palace during the summer transfer window and he has commanded the right-back spot in the Premier League where he has impressed with the defensive facet of his game.
The England youth international has already made an average of more than five tackles per league game and speaking to The Times, Mata has admitted that he has been amazed by the player’s defensive ability.
“He’s very, very good in defensive duties, very good in tackling. I’ve never seen any player like him, he’s unbelievable. Even in training you think you’re past him and then he comes and takes the ball straight. I can only see him improving. Like Anthony, he’s a shy, reserved guy but confident on the pitch,” he told The Times, via Metro.
Wan-Bissaka has been exceptional with his defending since the beginning of the league campaign and he has won the battle in a one-on-one with an opposition player on more occasions than not.
Still, there is room for improvement as he could seek to intercept play without going to ground. Elsewhere, he has yet to impress in an attacking point of view and a better accuracy in terms of his crossing would no doubt make him an allround player.
United are scheduled to entertain Arsenal in the Premier League on Monday night and Wan-Bissaka could come against Kieran Tierney, who has been touted to make the starting XI for the Gunners.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are currently four points behind the Champions League positions and a victory remains essential to keep up with the top four at the early phase of the campaign.
Meanwhile, Juan Mata has started in the number 10 role in each of the previous three Premier League games and he is likely to preserve his spot with the injuries to several experienced players.
