‘He’s not available’: Erik ten Hag confirms Man Utd striker is ‘unwell’ for Nottingham Forest game

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed that Anthony Martial is unwell and won’t be available for the Premier League clash at Nottingham Forest.

The Frenchman previously played for the Red Devils in the surprise 3-0 league defeat to Bournemouth at Old Trafford. He has since missed four games through illness.

Martial has yet to report for team training and when asked for an update, Ten Hag confirmed that he is ‘unwell’ and ‘he is not available’ to face Forest at City Ground.

He said: “Yeah, so he’s unwell. He’s not available.”

Martial could head for the exit door in January

The £36 million signing has been fancied to leave United and it could happen in January. The club have decided against renewing his contract which expires in June.

United are eyeing a new striker at the turn of the year. Stuttgart star Serhou Guirassy is one of the prime transfer targets and he could be available for just £15m.

The Guinean star has been in the form of his life with 19 goals from just 16 appearances. 16 of those have come in the Bundesliga where Stuttgart are currently third.

Guirassy is said to be flattered by United’s interest ahead of the New Year. Meanwhile, Martial is on the radar of Inter Milan as well as plenty of Saudi Arabian clubs.

The Red Devils will be aiming to recoup most of the funds required to purchase Guirassy this winter. The 27-year-old would definitely boost the club’s top-four bid.

Aside from Martial, club graduate Alvaro Fernandez could be sold. He could be recalled from his loan stint at Granada with Benfica keen on purchasing him for £6m.
