Manchester United head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has heaped praise on midfielder Scott McTominay following his impressive display in the 1-0 Premier League win over Leicester City.
The Scotland international has been inconsistent with his performances at the beginning of the season but he was superb against the Foxes, where he won his aerial duels with the joint-most interceptions and recoveries, as per Squawka.
As a result, he was voted as the man of the match by the Red Devils fans and Solskjaer was likewise pleased with McTominay, who produced a commanding performance from the centre of the park.
“I thought McTominay was excellent. He lost the ball a few times, but you expect that because he’s still learning his role. He goes into tackles and he’s a leader. I wouldn’t want to go into a 50-50 with him! I thought he did excellent all day,” he was quoted as saying by the club’s official website.
United took an early lead through a Marcus Rashford penalty goal in the eighth minute and that was sufficient to hand them with a much-needed victory with the Foxes producing a limited attacking threat.
With the 1-0 triumph, the Red Devils have ended a three-match winless streak in the Premier League and they are currently occupying the fourth position on a temporary basis with eight points.
Manchester United are scheduled to face Astana in the Europa League opener on Thursday night before tackling West Ham United in the Premier League on the road next weekend.
The likes of Tahith Chong and Axel Tuanzebe could be handed with their maiden starts of the season against Astana after being rewarded with minutes off the bench during the recent Foxes clash.
