‘Here we go’ – Manchester United on the verge of signing Sergio Reguilon from Tottenham

Manchester United are set to sign Sergio Reguilon from Tottenham in a season-long loan deal.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Man United have reached a verbal agreement with Spurs for Reguilon.

The Red Devils have been determined to add a left-back to their squad following injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.

Their move for Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella has hit a roadblock after the Spaniard featured for the Blues in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

Sergio Reguilon is just an emergency signing

The 26-year-old moved to Spurs for £27 million in September 2020.

He failed to shine at London outfit and spent last season on loan at Atletico Madrid, making 12 appearances.

Shaw’s injury is a big setback as it could keep him on the sidelines until November.

His deputy Malacia has been nursing a knee issue for several months and is yet to play any role this season.

Alvaro Fernandez is the only specialist left-back available to Erik ten Hag.

Diogo Dalot replaced Shaw in the starting line-up against Nottingham Forest last weekend.

He is expected to keep his place this Sunday when Man United make a trip to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal.

A move for Reguilon will not excite United supporters, but Ten Hag needs some cover in defence.

Considering the financial problems of the Old Trafford club, getting Reguilon seems to be the only viable option.

The loan deal for Reguilon comes with a clause to terminate in January.

United may exercise the clause and trim their squad if Shaw and Malacia are fit by then.
