Juventus winger Federico Bernardeschii is reportedly ready to leave the Old Lady this summer. European giants Manchester United, Chelsea and Atletico Madrid are potential destinations for the 26-year-old.
Bernardeschi is naturally gifted and is an incredibly mobile player. He is particularly well known for his quick feet.
His preferred role is out on the wing, which allows him opportunities to cut inside and shoot or pick out a cross into the box for his teammates.
He is not afraid to take on opponents alone either, as he often uses his stronger left foot to dribble past opponents and presents himself with opportunities, either to create chances or score himself.
Strengths – His lightning mobility is a key reason why defenders struggle to keep track of his runs. The winger also has a strong weaker foot which adds to the unpredictability factor. The Italian is strong and versatile, qualities which will definitely come in handy at Old Trafford.
Weakness – Despite there being no glaring gaps in his ability, there are elements of his game that Bernardeschi could improve on. The winger’s passing in the crucial positions can sometimes be lacking. His finishing in the final third could also be improved upon. He also is reaching the peak of his career and hasn’t progressed as well as his earlier trajectory suggested – pointing questions at his maturity,
Where does he fit – Manchester United is looking to build a team which can challenge on all fronts next season, and squad depth is a major problem. The club has to play 2 games in a week for the majority of the next season, with the Red Devils qualifying for the Champions League.
Injuries to Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba derailed the earlier part of Manchester United’s season and Ole Gunnar Solksjaer would hope not to have the same thing happen again.
Bernardeschi is a classic winger who stays close to the touchline, which could help the team in increasing the width of their attacking game. The winger will also be a huge improvement on the likes of Jesse Lingard and Andreas Pereira.
Verdict – Bernardeschi could be the back-up player Ole Gunnar Solksjaer is looking for, with his pace and skills expected to come in handy off the bench. Mason Greenwood’s emergence has helped Manchester United, but United need more options and Bernardeschi could certainly be one of them.
