Here is why Manchester United should sign former Arsenal midfielder

Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey is reported to leave Juventus in this summer transfer window. The Welsh international is being linked to a move to Manchester United, Newcastle and Wolves.

The former Gunners midfielder joined Juventus on a free transfer last summer and had been a bit-part player under Juventus manager Maurizio Saari. Here is why Manchester United should sign Aaron Ramsey.

Style of play

Aaron Ramsey’s priority is to move the ball forward. He is a keen supporting runner and his movements are explosive, his timing superb, meaning he is excellent at moving as the third-man in a passing sequence.

Ramsey is a fantastic, penetrative number 10, who runs in behind at every opportunity, and relishes rotating with a central striker or wider midfielders. Combining with attackers who prefer to come inside with possession, he finds suitable spaces to attack and create regular chances.

Strengths

Ramsey is pretty adaptable and could quickly fit into a lot of formations. He reaches his full potential either as a number 10 or as a box-to-box midfielder. He is also adept at moving the ball quickly to dangerous areas.

Weakness

The midfielder is often guilty of trying an over-ambitious pass and losing possession. Ramsey is sluggish and lets players get past him without attempting to win the ball back.

Where does he fit

United compete in four competitions- Premier League, Carabao Cup, FA Cup and the Champions League. They need depth as the team will play two games per week. Injuries to Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic and Scott McTominay attests United need depth.

Manchester United has suffered due to the lack of a quality back-up in the midfield position. Aaron Ramsey is a midfielder who can slot into this team if Pogba gets injured or is rested. The likely departure of Andreas Pereira and the lack of trust in Jesse Lingard has left Solksjaer short of options in this area.

A deep-lying playmaker who could also play as an advanced midfielder, Ramsey could be an able deputy to Bruno Fernandes.

Verdict

New Juventus manager Andrea Pirlo is planning a rebuild and Ramsey doesn’t figure into his plans. The Italian side can be motivated to sell the midfielder if a good offer comes in.

Juventus hasn’t quoted a price for the Welsh midfielder yet, but Manchester could get him for cheap. He turns 30 in December and doesn’t fit United’s youth revolution. However, if United miss on their other midfield targets, Ramsey will ba good addition.
