Thiago Alcantara does not need any introduction. With the last year of his contract remaining, Bayern Munich is content to let Thiago leave in this window for a fee of around £30m.
Liverpool are heavily linked with the player but the charms of playing at the Theatre of Dreams could sway him away.
Thiago looks at home in any of the midfield positions. He’s often partnered with Joshua Kimmich at Bayern in a double pivot. He can recycle possession, distribute to any area of the pitch, resist opposition press, has good defensive awareness, and get into dangerous areas in the final third.
Bruno Fernandes’ arrival and the resurgence of Paul Pogba has added real impetus to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s 4-2-3-1. United will compete in four competitions next season playing two games per week. Squad depth still remains an issue. Fred’s form is questionable. Andreas Pereira is awful and cannot perform to win games for United.
Thiago can. United could have a trifecta of gifted midfield players who can interchange their position at will, look at home while doing so and control the tempo of the game at the same time.
The midfielder could cost a sum of €30 million which can be easily justified for a player who has improved Bayern Munich’s game by a lot. Ed Woodward should look to get this transfer done before Liverpool pounce on the German International.
This recent performance in a 8-2 thrashing of Barcelona speaks volumes of why United should get Thiago quickly. He could add more options for United to experiment with and quality and is relatively cheaper to Jack Grealish and James Maddison.
