Earlier this week, reputed journalist Guillem Balague spoke to the BBC stating that Juventus are trying to get rid of Cristiano Ronaldo post-Champions League knockout. Paulo Dybala, Sami Khedira, and Blaise Matuidi are expected to leave the Old Lady too.
Juventus wants to part ways with Ronaldo after singing him for €100m last season because of his astronomical wages. He earns a net €26m, four times more than any other Juventus player. It is also believed that he has access to other ‘perks’ provided by the club. Juventus are frustrated and want to offload to raise funds for a squad rehaul.
Ballague reports that Juventus and Ronaldo’s manager Jorge Mendes are offering him to the likes of PSG and Barcelona. With PSG’s FFP debacle and Barcelona’s poor finances, neither of the clubs can sign him. Real Madrid were also given a chance to re-sign the Portuguese talisman but they rejected the offer
Enter Manchester United.
The Red Devils are not looking for a striker in the market but signing Ronaldo could be a short term masterstroke. The transfer fee on Ronaldo is not decided but whatever it will be, United could make five times of it in no time.
United fans are obsessed with Ronaldo’s homecoming since a decade. The economics of this deal will be a major commercial boost to United seeing their stock prices surge.
On the pitch, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would love to reunite with his former teammate and establish a winning mentality at United. He could be the dressing room leader United misses right now grooming a very young United side. Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford have fitness issues. Ronaldo won’t warm the bench but with United set to play two games per week next season, they could really use squad depth. This will result in Martial compromising on the game time but Ole surely knows how to make everyone happy.
Ronaldo loves United and a hostile situation at Juventus could sway him away from the Italian club. There is only one club that can keep up with Ronaldo’s wages. United did it with Alexis Sanchez; agreeing to a similar deal with Ronaldo is not a problem.
It is a no brainer for United. There is no lack of funds and amid United struggling to buy players in the market, Ronaldo’s brand image will surely tempt players to sign for United. This is the last chance to bring the Prince of Manchester back to the Theatre of Dreams.
