N’Golo Kante is one of the best holding midfielders in the world. The Frenchman has taken the world by storm since his in English football with Leicester City. He continues to show his excellence in Chelsea. It is absolutely sure that any team would not like to get rid of him.
However, an injury-hit campaign last season put his future at Stamford Bridge in doubt. Express reports that Manchester United could offer a deal for Kante if Chelsea plan to sell him.
Why would Chelsea sell a world-class player like Kante?
Frank Lampard spent a ridiculous amount of money [over £200m] to rebuild his Chelsea side this summer. He still hasn’t fixed his team’s leaking defence and the lack of cash could be a problem.
The transfer for Declan Rice has also stagnated due to the price tag put up by West Ham. Lampard is a fan of Rice and is hoping to get him into the club to replace Kante.
The manager could be forced to sell some of his team’s players and Kante could be on that list. With the midfielder turning 30 in 6 months, preferring to signing Rice over Kante should come as a shock.
This is because Lampard wants a youthful side. He made it clear that he will prefer youngsters when he arrived at Chelsea. And he has delivered. The likes of Tammy Abraham, Fikayo Tomori, Kurt Zouma, Reece James and Mason Mount have all been included in the first-team plan.
According to CalcioMerato, Chelea’s asking price for Kante is €60m.
Now, onto the second part- here is why Manchester United should sign Ngolo Kante:
Style of play
Kante is a gifted midfielder who plays the game without much fuss. A no-nonsense midfielder, Kante is a leader on the pitch for his team. His performances day in and day out continue to set an example for the rest of his teammates.
The French international is quick with his feet. He boasts good pace for a midfielder and is strong on the ball. Kante is very influential in holding his team’s structure and shape. He keeps the game moving with his effortless passing. The midfielder is present for his side throughout the 90 mins of the match and does not fade away.
His weaknesses remain winning aerial duels. As per WhoScored, he wins 0.7 aerial duels for every 1.9 attempts- with a success ratio of 36%. However, he makes up for it with his relentless running and pressuring opponents. Once he loses the ball, he chases opposition to his last breath.
Where does he fit in at Manchester United
Manchester United’s midfield has improved considerably since the arrival of Bruno Fernandes. His input in the attacking side of the game is very influential and has also brought Paul Pogba out of his shell. But, the emphasis of the attack by the midfielders has put an increasing amount of pressure on United’s backline.
The presence of Fred in the holding midfielder role does little to instil confidence in anyone. This where Kante could come in.
Kante’s proficiency in the defensive side would help the team’s other players to focus primarily on the attack.
United’s bench strength is a cause of concern for Solskjaer. The club is also looking to sell back-up midfielders, Andreas Pereira and Jesse Lingard.
Man United’s transfer for Sancho has stalled and with departures expected at the club, the club can afford Kante.
United are going to think about a move for the French player if Chelsea gives them the signal.
Ole should look at this deal seriously, as the smiling and easy to go Kante could be the one to turn the Red Devils into a ruthless footballing machine.
