Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has said that Marcus Rashford can be unstoppable if he has the right attitude against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium today.
The Red Devils are currently without their talismanic striker in Rasmus Hojlund due to injury. It is most likely that Rashford will get the nod up front unless the manager has a surprise in store.
Ahead of the derby, Ten Hag was supportive of Rashford, who has struggled to find the back of the net on a regular basis this term.
The Dutch tactician said that Rashford has shown in the past that he can score against the biggest opponents in the world.
Ten Hag added that he can be unstoppable against the Cityzens if he has the right attitude, but he needs more service from the team.
He told Sky Sports: “What he can take from the past, he can score a lot of goals, he can score against the biggest opponents in the world.”
“Against the best defenders in the world he is able to score and it’s just about him, if he has his attitude right on Sunday, he is unstoppable that is just about him and of course, we have to serve him.
“It’s a part of it, but in all the games, also against City, he had big chances to score goals and also he scored goals, many goals against City and especially I think in the Etihad.”
Rashford has had a difficult season by his high standards. The 26-year-old has registered only five goals and six assists from 32 appearances.
He has started in the number nine role in the last two games with Hojlund being sidelined with a muscle injury, but has been largely ineffective.
The United graduate has managed just one shot on target over the last week, but he should be motivated to prove his credentials in the derby.
Rashford has five goals in 19 meetings versus City and two of those have come in winning causes at the Etihad. He has the chance to repeat the feat.
The Manchester derby is a must-win for the Red Devils, considering they are already 11 points adrift of Aston Villa in the race for the fourth position.
