Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has heaped praised on Anthony Martial and believes the Red Devils will improve as an attacking unit with the presence of the Frenchman upfront.
The France international was handed with the number 9 jersey upon the summer departure of Romelu Lukaku and he thereafter made three league appearances on the trot, where he scored a couple of goals and provided an assist.
However, he picked up a thigh injury during the final of those games and that has hampered the club over the past couple of months, where Rashford has struggled to find the consistency leading the line.
Rashford did impress against Liverpool in a 1-1 draw last weekend but that was his first goal from open play since the 4-0 drubbing of Chelsea in the Premier League opener in early August.
Speaking in a press conference, Solskjaer acknowledged that the team have been far from impressive with their forward displays with their failure to score more than one goal per game since the curtain-raiser.
He added that Martial’s recent injury comeback is a huge boost for his side and the opponents will face a different kind of proposition with the Frenchman involved in the United XI.
“We’ve not created as many as we’d have liked and not scored as many as we’d have liked. Now Anthony is back, he got a goal, and I’m sure we’ll see us improve as a team with Anthony in the side. He does gives us something different,” he was quoted as saying by the club’s official website.
United recently ended a dreadful 11-match winless streak on the road with a 1-0 triumph over Partizan Belgrade in the Europa League. The performance was far from impressive with just one shot on target and that was the penalty converted by Martial.
They are presently lying in the 14th position in the Premier League and Sunday’s game at Norwich City remains a must-win with already a seven-point gap to the top four. The Canaries have looked defensively vulnerable this term but they can’t be underestimated, given they have already secured a shock win over Manchester City.
