Manchester United’s winter signing Odion Ighalo has spoken positively about the club’s forwards including Anthony Martial, who has been regularly leading the line this season.
The Nigeria international made the loan switch to the Red Devils from Shanghai Shenhua on deadline day and he is expected to compete for the striker’s position alongside Martial.
Speaking in his first United interview, Ighalo praised the trio of Mason Greenwood, Rashford and Martial and described the latter as a ‘very skilful’ player, who can provide something extra on the playing field.
“Greenwood is a very good player; young, very good left foot, I’ve watched some of his game. Martial is very skilful, he can do so much magic with the ball and Rashford I think is, for me, one of the best, if not the best, young players in Europe right now,” he told.
Rashford, Martial and Greenwood have bagged a combined 42 goals during the current campaign. Out of those, 12 have been contributed by Martial, who has been the regular striker after Romelu Lukaku’s exit last summer.
Martial has recently gone through a rough patch with three goalless games in the Premier League but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has suggested that the Frenchman has been hampered by fatigued.
United are scheduled to face Chelsea in the Premier League after the winter break and it will be interesting to see whether Ighalo is able to attain sufficient fitness in order to make the playing XI at Stamford Bridge.
Solskjaer’s side have lacked the presence of a striker capable of holding up play this season. In his recent interview, Ighalo has described himself as someone, who can provide the physical presence upfront for the side.
