Hargreaves identifies three signings that would make Man United different next season

Manchester United are having a terrible season, and they must fortify their squad in the summer to prevent suffering the same fate next term.

There are obvious areas that need addressing, and the club look ready to do so in the transfer window.

United are reportedly prioritising a move for a striker following Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee’s struggles in front of the goal.

They also want to sign a central midfielder to partner Manuel Ugarte and are said to be interested in signing another forward who can play as a number 10.

Former England international Owen Hargreaves has named three signings who would change United’s fortunes next season.

He told Rio Ferdinand Presents: “If you added Victor Osimhen, Matheus Cunha, and Ederson from Atalanta, Man United would be different next season.”

Coincidentally, United have been linked with the trio, but Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) could prevent them from signing all of them.

A deal for Cunha could be imminent. They are close to agreeing terms with him but need to activate his £62.5 million release clause.

United are poised to sign Osimhen for £51m, but his wage demands could prevent the club from completing a summer deal.

The Mancunian giants are also in pole position to sign Ederson, who could be Ugarte’s perfect midfield partner.

Atalanta want £52m for the Brazilian midfielder, who has turned down a contract extension with the club.

Winning the Europa League would boost Man United’s transfer plans and secure their Champions League qualification for next season.

Champions League qualification would earn them a minimum of £85.8m, but that might not be enough to sign players for huge fees.

They would also need to reduce their wage bill to afford players like Osimhen, who would demand hefty wages.
