Guillem Balague suggests 26-year-old star will sign new contract at Manchester United

Reputed Spanish journalist Guillem Balague has said that midfielder Paul Pogba may remain with Manchester United beyond the summer and he could be convinced to sign a new long-term contract.

The Frenchman has experienced a difficult season which has been affected by multiple ankle injuries and he has been limited to only seven appearances in the Premier League.

The 26-year-old is expected to return to action when the season recommences after the coronavirus shutdown but there are still concerns regarding his future due to the remaining length of his contract.

Pogba’s present deal with United is due to expire at the end of next season but the hierarchy do have the option to prolong his stay for another 12 months by triggering an extension clause available to them.

Speaking in his Youtube channel, Balague said that Pogba is keeping his options open for the next transfer window but he believes the midfielder would be better placed at United where he will be a leader.

The Spaniard added that a departure won’t be suitable with the present financial state due to the coronavirus pandemic and the club will definitely make the attempt to reward the midfielder with a fresh long-term deal.

“Paul Pogba has suggested both, that he wants to go and he wants to stay. So he’s playing his cards but at the moment I do feel that a player like him would be better serviced to be at Manchester United where he will be the leader. It’s not a good time to leave I don’t think and I believe that they’re going to convince him to stay with a new contract,” He said.

In Pogba’s absence, the likes of Fred and Nemanja Matic have got the opportunity to impress in the centre of the park, having initially struggled for gametime under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Elsewhere, Bruno Fernandes has improved United’s creativity since his mid-season move from Sporting Lisbon and he has amassed three goals and four assists from just nine outings.

The partnership of Pogba and Fernandes would be a relishing prospect to watch in the coming months and hopefully, the fans get to see them playing together beyond the current campaign.

The Premier League has been indefinitely suspended at the moment due to the coronavirus pandemic but June 8 has been mooted as a possible date to restart the season.
