Grateful Antony recalls ‘memorable’ goal against Arsenal

Manchester United forward Antony has revealed how he felt after scoring the ‘memorable’ goal against Arsenal on his debut.

Antony joined the Red Devils from Ajax in an £82 million transfer move on deadline day.

Erik ten Hag did not hesitate to name the young trickster in the starting line-up against Arsenal.

Marcus Rashford placed the ball into Antony’s path, who slotted it past Aaron Ramsdale with his stronger left foot, marking his debut with a crucial goal against fierce rivals.

Speaking to ManUtd.com, the Brazilian revealed that he is grateful for all the love he has received from the United faithful.

He said: “I had goosebumps stepping out there [against Arsenal], given the club’s history and the atmosphere with the United fans.

“I’m really happy to be a part of that now and experience the greatness, feel the goosebumps and the atmosphere with all the people.

“To score a goal in my first game and feel that atmosphere behind me was really memorable. I felt them nearby cheering us on.

“It was a great moment for me and I’m grateful for all the affection from the United fans.”

Antony has continued his goal-scoring form in the Premier League, finding the back of the net against Manchester City and Everton.

He is yet to bag an assist but with the attacking positions he is taking, that might not be too far away as well.

The Brazilian is not yet the finished product. He cuts inside too often and that can become predictable going forward.

He still needs to develop and add more variety to his game. At the age of 22, he has plenty of time to expand his game to become even better.

With Ten Hag at the helm, he has a familiar manager who knows his strengths and weaknesses.

The Dutchman will be paying special attention to Antony’s performances as the club backed his decision to go big for his signature in the summer.
