Goretzka has no intention of joining Man United this winter

Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka is not planning on swapping clubs this January transfer window despite struggling for game time, according to Florian Plettenberg.

The 29-year-old has found playing time had to come by at Bavaria and popped up on Manchester United’s shortlist for midfield reinforcement, but he is reportedly not keen on a winter move, even to Old Trafford.

Goretzka’s position in midfield has been usurped by the promising Aleksandar Pavlovic. The former Schalke 04 star has yet to start a Bundesliga game under new boss Vincent Kompany.

This has led to speculation regarding Goretzka’s future, with United emerging as a possible destination.

United need midfield reinforcement and reportedly have him on their shortlist, but it appears any move may have to wait until the summer for the player as he wants to see out the season with Die Rekordmeister.

United should not be after Goretzka

While Goretzka is a terrific midfielder on his day, he is the sort of player United must steer clear of. He has struggled with injuries all his career, and those niggling problems tend to take away his consistency.

Also, he is not the profile United’s midfield needs right now. The 6ft2ins star excels at everything but does not give United the control they desperately need in the centre.

Erik ten Hag’s side is crying out for a midfielder who can set the pace and dictate the tempo while being defensively sturdy, and the Bayern Munich man does not fit the bill.

If United sign Goretzka, they would still need to bring in the missing profile to complement the German and the Red Devils must avoid such business.

Goretzka also doesn’t particularly complement Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Maino and does not fit in when both men are on the pitch. It would be wiser for Manchester United to take their business elsewhere.
