Gomes and James start, Predicted Man United lineup (4-2-3-1) to face AZ Alkmaar

Manchester United are scheduled to face AZ Alkmaar on the road in tonight’s Europa League clash. The Red Devils have experienced a disappointing beginning to their Premier League season and they are currently languishing in the tenth spot with just nine points on the board.

Still, this should not hamper their performance in the Europa League, where they are genuine favourites to make the knockouts, and the upcoming game against Alkmaar offers United with the chance to end a nine-game winless streak on the road.

Team News:

As per an update from Solskjaer, Diogo Dalot and Angel Gomes are back in contention after recovering from respective knocks over the weekend. However, Anthony Martial (thigh), Luke Shaw (hamstring), Phil Jones, Eric Bailly (knee), Aaron Wan-Bissaka (tonsillitis) and Paul Pogba (ankle) are sidelined for the game. Ashley Young, meanwhile, has not travelled with the squad.

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Predicted Lineup:

Sergio Romero has been the goalkeeper for the Cup competitions and he has already participated in the Europa League and League Cup matches. The Argentine should feature between the sticks ahead of regular choice David de Gea.

In the defence, Solskjaer is likely to make a few changes from the previous game. Diogo Dalot’s injury comeback could see him slot into the right-back position while Marcos Rojo should return on the opposite end of the central defence.

At the heart of the backline, one of Harry Maguire or Victor Lindelof could be utilised and we are fancying the former to make the starting XI. The England international is likely to be accompanied by Axel Tuanzebe, who did a credible job from the left-back spot against Arsenal on Monday night.

In the centre of the park, there should be starts for Fred and Nemanja Matic, and it won’t be a surprise, if the latter is handed with the captain’s armband. Scott McTominay had a top performance against Arsenal, where he scored a sublime long-range goal but the Scot may remain on the bench with the view to the weekend league game at Newcastle United.

In the attack, Solskjaer may go with a young-looking combination meaning that Jesse Lingard could drop to the bench after his poor showing against Arsenal. Marcus Rashford will most probably lead the line and behind him, there could be starts for Daniel James, Angel Gomes and Mason Greenwood.
