A few Manchester United fans have reacted positively towards the cameo appearance from Angel Gomes during the club’s disappointing 3-1 defeat to Manchester City in the home leg of the League Cup semi-final.
The Red Devils were outclassed by the Cityzens during the opening half at Old Trafford and that saw them concede three goals in the space of 21 minutes.
Following the interval, the performance was slightly better as the players sought to reduce the deficit but the could only find one goal through Marcus Rashford in the 70th minute.
Gomes was involved in the lead-up as he won the ball from the opposition and he provided a key pass for Mason Greenwood, who laid in a perfectly weighted pass for Rashford to find the net.
Aside from this, Gomes did not make much of an impact during his 29-minute substitute appearance for United but some fans feel he should be afforded with a regular run in the number 10 role.
Here are some of the reactions on Twitter…
Ole finally puts Angel Gomes on. (Hasn’t been given a chance this season.)
Wins the ball in midfield and feeds Greenwood who assists Rashford.
Too little too late for Ole and Gomes will leave the club in the summer #MUFC— Nora Calder (@NoraUtd) January 7, 2020

I beg you Ole start playing Angel Gomes as our number 10. He can’t be worse than Lingard or Periera. They both have had chances and haven’t delivered. Give the boy a go from now on!

New contract to Angel Gomes and give him a go at number 10. What do we even have to lose?

United face a tough task of overcoming a two-goal deficit in the second leg but Solskjaer’s side have proved from the Premier League meeting earlier this season that they are more than capable of scoring twice at the Etihad Stadium.
However, this time around, United need at least three goals without conceding to progress to the final of the competition and that remains a tough task, particularly with Pep Guardiola playing with three-at-the-back and seeking to nullify the counter-attacking threat from the Red Devils.
