Paul Pogba was one of the stars on Saturday as Manchester United came from a 0-2 half-time deficit at Manchester City to pull off a stunning 3-2 win in the second half.
The French international started the comeback on 53 minutes by finishing off a fine move from United that saw Ander Herrera chest the ball into the midfielder’s path to place over Ederson.
97 seconds later and the score was 2-2 when Pogba showed more determination than Nicolas Otamendi to get on the end of Alexis Sanchez’s cross from deep. Sanchez then produced the set piece delivery from which Chris Smalling volleyed home the winner.
Victory not only prevented Manchester City from wrapping up the Premier League title in record time but also means they cannot be crowned champions at Wembley Stadium next weekend.
Heading into the game there had been reports from Paul Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola, that the French star would be on his way to Manchester City in the summer.
Pep Guardiola then had a word in the 25-year-old’s ear at the final whistle in front of the cameras.
Speaking after the game, Manchester United legend turned commentator and pundit, Gary Neville, had this to say about both Mino Raiola and Guardiola:
“Pep has probably been a bit mischievous, there’s no doubt about that. And I think Raiola would lie to anybody.
“He’s a bit of a joke really. He’s a really poor reflection on Paul Pogba.”
Paul Pogba is contracted at Old Trafford until 2021 with the option of a further year so there is no fear about us losing him to our local rivals this summer or anytime soon.
