Manchester United are set to kick off their new Premier League campaign against Fulham tomorrow.
Former United captain Gary Neville has expressed optimism for the club’s chances of success this season.
Speaking to Sky Sports News, he said: “No doubts if Erik ten Hag has a poor start and the results are same as the last year, then he will come under pressure very quickly.
“But, I am quietly optimistic about Manchester United. The signings they are bringing in are different profiles than they have in the past.
“The group of people now at the club, from the sporting director, technical director and CEO will not make the same mistakes that United made in the previous three or four seasons where they wasted money.
“The profile of the players they are bringing is the right profile. They are a younger, quicker, more athletic and energetic football team.
“I think that’s what you are going to see from Man United this year.
“There is still an imbalance in some parts of the team, but they are in a better situation than they were last year.”
Time for Man United to show improvement on the pitch
The Red Devils have spent over £140 million on four major signings – Leny Yoro, Joshua Zirkzee, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.
The much-needed overhaul in the defence is nearing completion.
The addition of Zirkzee and the return of Jadon Sancho bring valuable depth and creativity to the attack.
A new midfielder could be added in the next fortnight to bolster the midfield department.
The squad is undoubtedly in a better place than last year. The structural changes at United add the desired solidarity.
While improvements have been made off the pitch, the United manager must translate this progress into better performances and results on the field.
The Red Devils will meet Fulham for their top-flight opener tomorrow at Old Trafford.
A winning start is crucial to ease early nerves and establish a positive momentum for the season.
