Gary Neville predicts a sixth-placed finish for Manchester United, insists winning the EPL or UCL is impossible with the Glazers in charge

Gary Neville does not see Manchester United finishing in the top four this season following their uninspiring start to the 2023-24 Premier League campaign.

The Red Devils are currently eighth in the table after picking up five wins in their opening nine league games and losing the other four.

This was Neville’s reply when asked on social media platform X which position he thinks Man United will finish in the league at the end of the campaign.

The former Red Devils star also explained why he does not see manager Erik ten Hag succeeding.

Man United finished third in the Premier League last term and also won the League Cup in Ten Hag’s first season in charge.

However, they have been underwhelming this term, with all their victories in the league and Champions League hard-fought.

Things will need to improve significantly on the pitch for United to book a place in the last-16 of the elite European competition following defeats to Bayern Munich and Galatasaray.

They are clearly not among the best five teams in the Premier League right now, and they will need to invest significantly in the squad during the January transfer window to finish in the Champions League places.

Andre Onana, Mason Mount and Sofyan Amrabat have all struggled to hit the ground running at the Old Trafford club after joining this summer, while Rasmus Hojlund is slowly picking up pace after injury forced him to miss the start of the campaign.

The Glazers are unlikely to leave anytime soon despite putting the club up for sale last year.

They have finally agreed to sell 25% of Man United to Sir Jim Ratcliffe, and he will control football operations at the club if his partial takeover goes through.

Despite this, it could take time before the changes the fans crave are made given the current state of play.
