Galatasaray are in the market for midfielders. They went in for Fred earlier this summer – and whilst there have been no developments on that particular move – the Turkish club have also eyed Manchester United veteran Juan Mata.
According to Turkish journalist Ergin Kay?o?lu, Galatasaray will soon begin negotiations with the Red Devils to acquire Juan Mata. Earlier this summer, their rivals Fenerbahce were plotting a move for Mata as well. The Turkish giants were in for the Spaniard last summer as well – but a move couldn’t be completed then.
But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer did not have Bruno Fernandes or Donny van de Beek then. These arrivals certainly open the exit door for Mata, whose contract at Old Trafford expires in June 2021. Although Mata did make 35 appearances last season, he was on the pitch for a meagre 1551 minutes, scoring three goals and assisting a further seven in all competitions.
Solskjaer has been all about invigorating youth into the side – and replacing Mata with van de Beek coincides perfectly with the master plan.
