Galatasaray vice-chairman confirms transfer talks for Scott McTominay, Man Utd reject early offers

Manchester United have turned down early bids for Scott McTominay as interest in the midfielder continues to grow, according to the Manchester Evening News.

McTominay is considered a vital squad member and United have no plans to let him leave on cheap.

The 27-year-old midfielder enjoyed his highest goalscoring campaign last term, bagging ten goals and three assists in 43 appearances.

His current deal expires next summer, but the club have the option to extend it by another 12 months.

Galatasaray vice-chairman Ibrahim Hatipoglu has said discussions over McTominay are ongoing.

He said: “McTominay’s transfer fee is being discussed. Negotiations are ongoing [for] McTominay and (Desire) Doue. (Aaron) Wan-Bissaka is not our priority.”

McTominay could only leave for a hefty price

Erik ten Hag deployed McTominay in numerous roles last season.

The Scotland international played as a holding midfielder, number 10 and even led the attack at times.

Ten Hag also used him as an impact substitute to add physicality and a source of aerial dominance in the final third.

West Ham United were interested in signing McTominay last summer. They tabled a bid of around £30 million, but United stuck to their £40m asking price.

Fulham were reportedly leading the chase to sign the midfielder.

McTominay is on a £60,000-per-week contract at United. The Red Devils should only consider selling the midfielder if a bid of £40m-£50m is received.

If not, United should offer a new deal to the midfielder as he is a robust squad player.

McTominay can don multiple hats and can play a key role if there are injuries in the squad.

United are eyeing a move for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte this summer.

Casemiro’s dip in form last season has highlighted the need for Ten Hag to bolster the midfield department, making Ugarte’s acquisition a crucial priority.

The Dutchman will demand another midfielder if McTominay is also allowed to leave.
