Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko is yet to regain full fitness and has missed all four pre-season games this summer.
Sesko aggravated his shin injury during the Premier League clash with Liverpool in May. He was forced to miss the last three games of the previous campaign.
According to journalist Steven Railston, Sesko will not be available for the upcoming pre-season contest against Leeds United on Wednesday.
The Slovenia international moved to Old Trafford from RB Leipzig for an initial fee of £66.3 million last summer.
Despite enduring a frustratingly slow start to the 2025-26 campaign, the striker finished as United’s joint-top Premier League scorer with 11 goals.
It was reported recently that the 23-year-old would regain fitness before the new season kicks off against Hull City later this month.
However, he now faces a race against time to complete his recovery and squeeze in at least one friendly before the competitive action begins.
United will face AC Milan on August 15, giving head coach Michael Carrick one final opportunity to hand Sesko some minutes before the opening-day clash.
Carrick will undoubtedly hope his young striker can make an appearance, even if it is only for a brief cameo.
Bryan Mbeumo looks set to lead the line against Leeds United but Carrick could also give an opportunity to Matheus Cunha.
The Brazilian shone in the number nine role for his country during the FIFA World Cup.
Carrick previously used Sesko as a game-changing substitute during his interim spell, and the manager could deploy a similar approach this season while the striker works his way back to full sharpness.
