Fresh injury concerns for Ten Hag as Varane, Fernandes & Maguire could miss Forest match

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has revealed new injury concerns ahead of Wednesday’s FA Cup tie against Nottingham Forest.

Ten Hag confirmed Casemiro is fit despite taking a knock against Fulham. He also offered updates on Bruno Fernandes, Raphael Varane, valued at a combined €100 million by Transfermarkt, and Harry Maguire.

“We have some question marks,” admitted Ten Hag in an exclusive interview with MUTV. “Harry Maguire is unavailable, Bruno Fernandes is doubtful, and Raphael Varane is also a doubt.”

Maguire joins Rasmus Hojlund and Luke Shaw on the sidelines. The England international centre-back scored in the Fulham loss and will be a massive miss for the Forest fixture.

Varane’s potential absence could leave United light at the back, with Jonny Evans, Victor Lindelof and Willy Kambwala as potential options to plug the hole at centre-half.

Bruno Fernandes is yet to miss a game for United through injury, but he picked up a knock against Fulham.

He managed to finish the game against the Cottagers, but he is a doubt for the trip to the City Ground. Ten Hag remained defiant despite the setbacks.

“We have a strong squad,” Ten Hag added. “When players are missing, others have the chance to step up and win their positions back.”

Lisandro Martinez, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Tyrell Malacia, Mason Mount and Anthony Martial remain unavailable, but Casemiro’s return will give the team a big boost heading into the game.

The experienced Brazilian international will be expected to bring calm and leadership against a spirited Forest side.

United will hope to overcome their injury woes and secure a place in the next round of the FA Cup.

The cup is this team’s last realistic chance to salvage silverware from a poor season that has seen them lose 15 of 36 matches.

Ten Hag will hope his side can deliver tomorrow despite the setbacks.
