French heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain have been credited with an interest in signing defender Diogo Dalot from Manchester United when the transfer window reopens.
The Portuguese joined the Red Devils from Porto in the summer of 2018 and he was regarded by ex-United boss Jose Mourinho as the best European full-back in his age group.
Dalot has since struggled for regular playing time due to a combination of injuries and competition for places and he is now regarded as the deputy to Aaron Wan-Bissaka for the right-back/right wing-back role.
The 21-year-old has definitely impressed with the limited opportunities at hand but his chances of retaining a regular role appear slim under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the moment.
According to Portuguese daily O’Jogo (translated by Sport Witness), Paris Saint-Germain have set their sights on landing the versatile defender as they are expected to part ways with Thomas Meunier, whose contract expires at the end of the season.
It is added that United are willing to sanction Dalot’s sale for a fee between £30m (€35m) and £35m (€40m) and that should not prove a burden for the French champions during this summer’s transfer window.
Dalot has already shown his versatility at United, having already played in both full-back positions. He also made a couple of appearances last term as an auxiliary right-winger under Solskjaer’s management.
Still, he would want the assurance of regular first-team football rather than sitting on the bench at the current phase of his career. Dalot has made 33 appearances for United to date.
