Manchester United midfielder Fred delivered an impressive display during the 2-1 comeback win over Fulham in the final game of the Premier League season.
The Brazil international has had limited playing time since April but he was handed a starting role in this afternoon’s clash against the Cottagers at Old Trafford.
The 30-year-old made his mark by being involved in both of United’s goals. He played his part in Jadon Sancho’s equaliser before delivering a sublime assist in the second half.
The midfielder played a disguised through-ball for Bruno Fernandes who timed his run into the box before chipping his shot beyond the advancing Bernd Leno.
Aside from his goal contribution, Fred had 64 touches with a pass accuracy of 82 per cent. He won six duels, produced five key passes and completed 100 per cent of his tackles.
Fred was replaced by Christian Eriksen shortly after the hour mark and it remains to be seen whether the Brazilian will be rewarded with a starting spot in the FA Cup final.
The Red Devils face Manchester City at the Wembley Stadium on Saturday and manager Erik ten Hag could be tempted to play Fred ahead of Eriksen once more.
The former Shakhtar star did a tremendous job of man-marking Kevin de Bruyne in the derby win earlier this year and he could be tasked with a similar job at Wembley.
Fred has been inconsistent during his time at Old Trafford but he is a player who can rise to the big occasion. We won’t be surprised if he makes the starting XI next weekend.
