Manchester United ended their 2025 summer window by making five new additions to their squad.
Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Diego Leon, Benjamin Sesko and Senne Lammens completed their transfers to Old Trafford.
However, they also missed out on a few stars due to the lure of European football or financial restrictions.
Here we look at four players Man United were unable to sign despite holding an interest.
1) Liam Delap
United earmarked Liam Delap as their priority number nine target as he had a £30 million release clause.
They viewed him as a striker with huge potential and a cost-effective Premier League option.
Chief executive Omar Berrada and Director of Football Jason Wilcox even met him in Manchester to pitch the United project.
A host of English top flight clubs were keen to get his signature but he gave his green light to a move to Chelsea after Red Devils missed out on European football.
2) Hugo Ekitike
United made a check call on Hugo Ekitike, but they were too late as Liverpool were already too far ahead in the transfer race.
Eintracht Frankfurt accepted a deal worth £79m to sanction the exit of their prized asset.
With his towering frame and sharp instincts inside the box, Ekitike could have been the powerful presence Amorim craved.
The Frenchman has wasted no time in England, hitting three goals and one assist in just four appearances.
3) Viktor Gyokeres
Amorim knows Viktor Gyokeres better than most, having turned him into a goal machine at Sporting Lisbon.
It was heavily touted that the Swedish international could secure a switch to Old Trafford, as Amorim wanted a new striker.
Similar to Delap, Gyokeres was determined to join a Champions League side to match his ambitions.
At 27, he is at his peak and wanted a stable culture and club that can challenge for titles, something United could not guarantee.
4) Carlos Baleba
The blockbuster deal that never happened.
Fans were left buzzing when United were first linked with Carlos Baleba.
Brighton & Hove Albion wanted to keep Baleba for at least another campaign and placed an astronomical asking price of over £100m.
By then, United had already splurged close to £200m on Cunha, Mbeumo and Sesko, leaving little room to push for Baleba.
Midfield is a glaring issue for the Red Devils, a weakness that could limit their success this season.
