Manchester United are preparing for a busy transfer window with multiple signings on the cards.
The club will likely focus on landing a marquee striker with the inconsistency upfront this campaign.
Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have netted just six goals in the Premier League.
A new centre-back could be pursued, with Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans set to leave on free transfers. Their contracts expire at the end of June.
Lisandro Martinez picked up a serious knee in February and may not return until late 2025.
The club could also consider another versatile winger alongside a defensive midfielder.
With this in mind, here are four Sporting CP stars manager Ruben Amorim could reunite with at United.
Viktor Gyokeres
The Swede has been in the form of his life over the past two years. He has netted a staggering 52 goals alongside 12 assists from just 48 appearances this term.
The 26-year-old striker can be signed for £60 million. In a recent presser, Amorim made it clear that he would not consider Gyokeres if his priority remains the Champions League.
Despite this, the Red Devils could make an approach for the in-form striker if they were to qualify for the competition by winning the Europa League final at San Mames.
Gyokeres was exceptional upfront in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 formation. His goalscoring and chance creation make him a no-brainer signing if personal terms can be agreed.
Francisco Trincao
The Portugal international has had a career transformation since his move to Sporting CP from Barcelona, initially on loan. The 25-year-old has been in fine form this campaign.
Trincao, who can operate on either wing or as a second striker, has registered nine goals and 18 assists for the Portuguese champions. He could be on the move this summer.
With Antony anticipated to depart, Amorim could eye a reunion with Trincao, who can operate as a right-sided number 10. He has a £51m release clause in his contract.
A deal seems unlikely if United proceed to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers attacker Matheus Cunha.
Goncalo Inacio
The centre-back has been long linked with a move to Old Trafford. He was reportedly on United’s radar before the club recruited Lisandro Martinez from Ajax in the summer of 2022.
The 23-year-old could re-emerge as a serious transfer candidate after Amorim’s move from Lisbon to Manchester last year. The Portuguese is a strong ball-playing defender.
He has a passing accuracy of 90 percent this term with an average of four recoveries. He is also strong in the air and prefers to clear his lines when the situation requires him to.
Just like Trincao, he has a release clause worth £51m in his contract. Despite the emergence of Ayden Heaven, Amorim may consider a reunion with the left-footed star.
Morten Hjulmand
Hjulmand was relatively unknown when he joined Sporting CP from Lecce two years ago.
The defensive midfielder has made immense progress over the past 20 months. He was promoted as captain last summer and has kept his position despite the change of managers.
The Dane has a sublime passing accuracy of 91 percent, with 61 percent of his duels won. He has made almost six recoveries per game, alongside 1.9 tackles. He has excelled with his positioning.
United need someone of his calibre to shore up the midfield. Amorim has recently hailed Casemiro’s transformation. A move for Hjulmand may ultimately depend on the Brazilian’s future.
Sporting CP are prepared to part ways with their captain for less than his £68m release clause.
