Arsene Wenger has now revealed that he was handed an offer to join Manchester United as their new boss but eventually declined that luscious proposal.
While asked about the whole matter, Wenger confirmed the rumour (h/t reddit) by only saying, “Yes.”
In reply, when the interviewer attempted to know what was the time frame of that occurrence, the longest-serving manager in the Gunners’ history opined:
“I don’t tell you that, but I can tell you Man United offered me the job.”
Wenger was at the helm of the London-based club for long-lived 22 years (from 1996 to 2018), helping the club win three Premier League titles, seven FA Cups and seven Community Shields.
Actually, he is one of the most successful Premeir League managers behind Sir Alex Ferguson in the Premier League era.
Sir Alex Ferguson went on to win 13 Premier League with his beloved Manchester United. And the rivalry between Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger is one of those events that directly goes into the pages of history.
A torrid run of form saw Arsene Wenger get the sack in April 2018. However, Arsenal had to pay £17.1m to offload the manager and his coaching staffs from the ranks.
Arsenal have a new man in Mikel Arteta at their managerial throne. Arteta has already guided his side to a FA Cup and FA Community Shield glories under his tutelage so far.
And, on the other, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the current manager of Manchester United, and there is no real sign of his dismissal from the devoted job anytime soon.
Arsene Wenger, 70, is spending his time away from the football pitch. And there is no indication that the Frenchman would return to management sooner than later.
