Forget Liam Delap, Man Utd should sign RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko

Manchester United will likely invest in a marquee striker when the transfer window reopens this summer.

The club have already been linked with multiple names over the past few weeks.

Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap has emerged as a top target. He could be signed for a low release clause of £30 million if the Tractor Boys are relegated from the Premier League.

However, the club should aim higher for the summer transfer window.

In a Q&A session for The Athletic, journalist David Ornstein confirmed that the Red Devils rate Benjamin Sesko ‘very highly’. He was a ‘prominent’ target for the club last summer.

Sesko, described as a ‘super talent’ by Ornstein, has also been on Arsenal’s radar, but the club have ‘some reservations’ over purchasing him ahead of Alexander Isak or Viktor Gyokeres.

In our opinion, the door is open for the Red Devils to capitalise and land the Slovenian ace.

Sesko would be a better acquisition than Delap for United

Delap has had a productive debut season with Ipswich. He has netted 12 goals and provided two assists.

The 22-year-old has caught the eye with his physical and aerial presence alongside his dribbling skills.

Delap has the potential to become an elite striker, but we believe Sesko has a much higher ceiling.

Sesko has registered 19 goals and provided six assists for RB Leipzig during the ongoing campaign.

He is better at linking up play than Delap, who is more of a traditional striker.

Sesko is also better in the air, winning 56 percent of duels compared to Delap’s 45 percent in the league.

The 21-year-old’s shot-to-goal conversion rate is similar to Delap’s (20 percent), but he is visibly much quicker on the counterattack.

Sesko will have a release clause between £61m-£69m during the next transfer window.

He is more expensive than Delap but has the traits to become world-class in the long run.

With Arsenal having reservations over Sesko, United have the perfect platform to prise him away.
