Fabrizio Romano: Transfer secret as Real Madrid also tried to sign United target Sancho for €90m in September

Manchester United’s no.1 target for so long, Jadon Sancho was reportedly close to joining Real Madrid in the last September, an Italy-based transfer guru in Fabrizio Romano reveals.

As per the report from The Guardian suggests, Real Madrid, despite being under immense financial pressure, were interested in paying €90m plus bonuses to Borussia Dortmund.

However, that offer never proved to be enough to lure the Englishman from Signal Iduna Park as Dortmund’s asking price was something around €120m without bonuses.

Reports claimed Real Madrid had thought that Dortmund would give them a discount in a market affected by COVID-19, while Dortmund rather prefered keeping Sancho for at least another season than losing him for a cheaper price.

One source close to the winger even told, “It was so close to being done, the player was disappointed.”

Manchester United, on the other hand, spent their summer transfer window thinking about an apparent arrival of the youth sensation, on to sign two 18-year-old wingers on the deadline day.

There are reports of United keeping their tabs on Sancho and judging him as Solskjaer’s no.1 target for the next summer.

However, the competition for his signature would be severe next time as those European heavyweights will be ready to splash their cash in an attempt to strike down a deal as early as possible.
