Fabrizio Romano speaks on Manchester United’s chances of signing Jadon Sancho

Reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano believes Manchester United may struggle to sign Jadon Sancho this summer with Borussia Dortmund unlikely to lower their £87m (€100m) asking price.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen on signing a right-sided winger during the next transfer window and Sancho has been earmarked as the prime target for the position.

Speaking exclusively to The United Stand, Romano revealed that the personal terms remain a formality but the main problem lies on whether the Red Devils are willing to meet Dortmund’s price tag for Sancho.

“The main problem is between Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund. It’s not just a problem for Man Utd, it’s the same problem for other top clubs. At the moment it’s impossible to think that a club will spend a lot of money for this player,” He told.

He added that Dortmund are fairly relaxed over Sancho’s situation and it will be difficult for United or any other club to sign the 20-year-old so long as the German side refuse to lower the £87m valuation.

“Borussia Dortmund is so relaxed because they know the player has an important value and they can think, ‘ok, stay here one year more, then next summer, in one year we will see if someone has got the money’. They will ask for €100mil, and they want €100mil. So I think it will be so difficult to get Jadon Sancho.” He added.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has spent nearly £200m on five signings during his managerial reign at the club and each of them has stood out at certain parts of the ongoing campaign.

As such, the Norwegian should be backed in the pursuit of Sancho but there have been questions raised whether the board would pay such a high figure amid the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

As things stand, the onus is on United to meet Dortmund’s demands for the winger or else they may have to wait for another 12 months to make another transfer proposal. The waiting period could invite interest from other elite European clubs.
