Fabrizio Romano reveals Saudi Pro-League’s interest in Andre Onana

Goalkeeper Andre Onana has proven unreliable since moving from Inter Milan to Manchester United in a £47.2 million deal in the summer of 2023.

The Cameroonian made two errors leading to goals in the Europa League quarter-final first-leg clash with Lyon last Thursday.

He now holds the record for the most errors leading to goals by a Premier League goalkeeper since making his debut for United.

His abysmal display against Lyon was one reason he was dropped for United’s Premier League clash with Newcastle United yesterday at St. James’ Park.

The decision to drop him for the clash against Newcastle, combined with his unreliability, has led to uncertainty regarding his future at Old Trafford.

Journalist David Ornstein has claimed that Onana’s agent ‘may now have to look to shift his player’ in the summer to safeguard his career.

However, due to the Cameroon international’s unconvincing performances for the Red Devils, his agent may find it challenging to secure a move to another top European club.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano, speaking via YouTube, has revealed there is interest in the Cameroonian goalkeeper from Saudi Arabia.

“Onana’s situation is one to watch in the summer transfer window.

“There has been interest from Saudi Arabia since he was at Inter, but he preferred a move to Man United. He had this dream to play for United and in the Premier League.

“I can say that the interest from the Saudi Pro League (SPL) is still there, and it remains strong for the African goalkeeper.

“It’s not something that will be discussed now—it’s still early, and Onana wants to do his best for United until the end of the season.”

United will hope to recoup a substantial portion from the sale of the 29-year-old goalkeeper to avoid recording a financial loss under the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
