Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Manchester United are currently in discussions with the agents of talented Ajax star Antony.
United are reportedly very keen to bring the 22-year-old Brazilian winger to Old Trafford this summer. Antony will cost United around €100 million (£85m) according to De Telegraaf’s Mike Verweij.
Erik ten Hag desperately needs to bolster his attacking ranks at Old Trafford before the summer transfer window closes.
He has already addressed his central midfield ranks with the addition of Casemiro but that won’t be enough if United are to challenge on all fronts this season.
And it seems as though Ten Hag is eager to get one deal in particular over the line as soon as possible.
Manchester United in talks with Antony agents
Romano has claimed that the decision on where Antony will be playing his football next season depends on Ajax now:
It remains to be seen whether United will match Ajax’s £85m demands for the South American, but we really think they should. Antony is a special, special young talent.
We think that Antony would be a truly stunning addition for United. He has been described as a ‘real deal young Ronaldo’ by Eurosport. The Ajax star has also been labelled as a ‘superstar in the making’ and ‘unstoppable’ by the Express.
Antony has also drawn comparisons with Brazilian legends Neymar and Ronaldinho (Goal). On top of all of that, Manchester Evening News have labelled him a ‘scintillating’ player.
He bagged 12 goals and 10 assists in 33 games for Ajax last season. The previous campaign he chalked up 10 goals and 10 assists in 46 games. Those are impressive numbers for someone so young.
He can play on either wing, is exceptionally fast and possesses incredible technique. Antony’s play is quintessentially Brazilian – he plays with an abundance of flair and always tries to excite the crowd.
Antony possesses everything that Ten Hag is desperately lacking amongst his ranks at United at the moment.
Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho are just not producing the goods on a consistent enough basis. There are clearly big problems at Old Trafford and Ten Hag has a tough task to turn things around.
We believe that signing Antony would have a major impact on United’s fortunes though. Sure, the Eredivisie is a far inferior standard to the Premier League, but this player has something very special about him.
He has proven over a period of time that he has truly exceptional talent. With his speed and direct playing style, he should have no problem adjusting to the ferociously paced Premier League.
And if it takes £85 million for United to bring Antony to Old Trafford, the Glazers should make it happen in our view.
