Fabrizio Romano: Juventus could have offered €100m to Man United for Paul Pogba – but COVID-19 stopped them

Manchester United might have lost their superstar at the hands of Serie A giants had the footballing world been hammered by the coronavirus pandemic.

According to Fabrizio Romano for The Guardian, Juventus would have made a mouth-watering offer of €100m to re-sign Paul Pogba from Manchester United last summer had not their finances been affected drastically by the rapid emergence of COVID-19.

Pogba joined Manchester United from Juventus for a club-record breaking transfer fee of £89m in 2016 under Jose Mourinho. He’s still the most-expensive player United have signed.

In his first season with his boyhood club, Pogba went on to win UEFA Europa League and EFL Cup, being one of their best players alongside another new recruit in Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The following year, however, saw a spat emerging between Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba and the head coach Jose Mourinho.

A torrid run of results saw the Portuguese manager get the sack, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replacing him at the throne of Manchester United.

During his latest duty for the France international team, Paul Pogba expressed his thoughts on playing for Real Madrid one day, saying:

“Of course, every footballer would love to play for Real Madrid and would dream about that. It’s a dream of mine, so why not one day?”

It won’t be surprising either if he leaves Old Trafford next summer. His contract expires in 2021 – with an option to extend for another year. There have been no recent comments by his agent Mino Raiola – who is known for getting the best deals for his clients.

Spanish media outlet AS reports that Real Madrid are not trying to sign Pogba. The Blancos have Kylian Mbappe and Eduardo Camavinga as their prime targets.
