Forgotten Manchester United defender Tyrell Malacia will leave the club next summer.
Renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed on his YouTube channel: “Tyrell Malacia, despite returning to training with the first team of Manchester United after a crazy window where he had several opportunities, is not going to sign any new contract and will leave the club for sure 100% in 2026.”
Malacia was part of the infamous five-member ‘bomb squad’, a group frozen out of the first-team picture.
Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Jadon Sancho were the other members, and all four have already departed Old Trafford.
Malacia initially came close to sealing a switch to La Liga side Elche but the deal collapsed during the final week of the window.
Turkish club Eyupspor also made an approach for him, but negotiations broke down before a final agreement could be reached.
The left-back is now in the final year of his contract and is set to walk away from United on a free transfer in July.
The Dutch international was Erik ten Hag’s first signing at Old Trafford but has failed to meet expectations.
Fierce competition for places and relentless injuries meant he never got the chance to establish himself at United.
He missed the entire 2023/24 campaign due to a serious knee injury.
Multiple surgeries eventually allowed him to return in November last year, but by then his role had all but vanished.
He featured eight times under head coach Ruben Amorim but it was clear that he did not fit the system.
The Red Devils have invested in two fresh left wing-backs, Patrick Dorgu and Diego Leon, over the last 10 months.
Diogo Dalot can also operate in the position, leaving no space for Malacia in the squad.
Although the 26-year-old has been drafted back into first-team training, the move looks more like a shop-window strategy than a genuine lifeline.
We believed it was a strategic decision to raise his market value ahead of the January transfer window.
While he could depart as a free agent in July, the Red Devils may try to cash in with a cut-price deal before the season ends.
