Fabrizio Romano confirms Hannibal Mejbri has decided to join Sevilla

Man United plan contract talks for rising star Hannibal Mejbri

Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri has decided to join Sevilla on an initial loan deal, according to reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Tunisia international has been used sparingly by manager Erik ten Hag this term, but the club recently made the decision to extend his stay until June 2025.

It is now revealed that he has agreed to join Sevilla on a temporary basis. The clubs will now discuss terms of the deal including a buy option and a buy-back clause.

Mejbri has made the right choice for his career

The 20-year-old had a productive loan stint with Birmingham City last season and it was sufficient to convince manager Erik ten Hag to keep him in the first-team squad.

Mejbri got the chance to impress from the starting line-up earlier this term, but his playing time has drastically reduced with the return of Kobbie Mainoo after a long-term injury.

Mainoo is regarded as one of the best young midfielders in the country and there are no surprises that he has become the club’s preferred number six in the injury absence of Casemiro.

In our view, Mejbri has made the right decision at the current phase of his career. United are likely to overhaul their midfield in the summer with Casemiro and Sofyan Amrabat possibly leaving.

The club could invest on marquee additions and Mejbri’s chances of playing time may not improve. A switch to Sevilla could assure him minutes to develop into a top-class midfielder.

If the La Liga outfit were to sign him in the summer, a buy-back clause would be beneficial for United in re-signing their graduate if he goes on to develop into a world-beater in Spain.
