Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has provided a fitness update ahead of Tuesday’s Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils recently returned to action after the World Cup break with a 2-0 win over Burnley in the Carabao Cup fourth round. Christian Eriksen and Marcus Rashford were the scorers.
They will now restart their top-flight campaign against Forest at home. Ahead of the game, Ten Hag could be without five key players including Harry Maguire and Diogo Dalot.
Maguire missed the Clarets clash in midweek through an illness and Ten Hag has said that he has no idea whether he will be fit for Forest’s visit of Old Trafford on December 27.
He told Manutd.com: “I can’t answer because Harry is sick. I don’t know how that develops. We have to wait. Maybe the coming hours, maybe the coming days, and then we will see if he is available for Forest.”
The manager was also unsure over the availability of Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane, but said that they should be available soon following a break after the World Cup final.
Elsewhere, the Dutch tactician did not provide any update on Diogo Dalot, who is nursing a hamstring problem but he does not think Jadon Sancho will be available for selection.
Aside from team news, Ten Hag was posed questions on Gakpo. He appeared to distance himself from the speculation by saying that there were many top players at the World Cup.
When asked whether he was a big fan of Gakpo at the tournament, he said: “There were many many good players in the World Cup.”
PSV boss Ruud van Nisterooy recently said that there becomes a time when you can’t say no [regarding Gakpo], but Ten Hag once again refused to speak on the transfer links.
He added: “I think you can say that about many players.”
